Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is the process by which your body recovers its function following injury. It is a vital part of the injury process and can often be overlooked or neglected. Muscles and Joints are always left weak following injury and need to be reintroduced to increasing load/strain gradually if the body is to fully recover.  We achieve this via exercises that become increasingly strenuous as the area becomes stronger.  This process is called progressive exercise therapy and is rarely addressed if ever after most injuries or periods of inactivity such as hospitalisation.  In the general population as the pain from injury subsides we naturally revert to functioning as we did previously, however with subtle compensations that we are likely to be unaware of.   The most vulnerable time in the injury process can be following the recovery from the initial acute trauma.  Although your pain may have settled, your muscles and joints have not fully strengthened leaving you at risk of developing further injury.  Most injuries that reoccur do so because the rehabilitation process was not completed.

Injury rehabilitation is wide-ranging and specific to the individual.  You may just want to get back to everyday activities or return to a particular sport.  Whatever it is we will assist you by gradually exposing the injured tissue to increasing stress (mechanotherapy) it involves careful planning and guidance.  Whether you are recovering from an orthopaedic surgery, sports injury, chronic or repetitive Injury we can help guide the rehabilitation.  We have much experience rehabilitating athletes and those following orthopaedic procedures whether it be a total hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder dislocations, sciatica or anything else out there, we have generally covered it.
