Whether you are a weekend warrior, a competitive triathlete, or a mountain biker exploring the Holme Valley, a professional bike fit is the best investment you can make for your cycling.
At Physiotherapy Room Holmfirth, we offer more than a standard retail bike fit. Our sessions are physio-led, meaning we don’t just look at the bike—we look at the rider. By combining clinical expertise with cycling mechanics, we ensure your bike is tailored to your unique anatomy, flexibility, and injury history.
Why Choose a Physiotherapist for Your Bike Fit?
Unlike a standard retail bike fit, a physio-led fit considers your clinical history and physical health.
Expert Biomechanics: We understand how your joints and muscles move. We don’t just move the saddle; we analyze your posture to find your optimal position.
Injury Prevention & Recovery: We address the root cause of “cycling aches” like neck pain and saddle soreness, ensuring you don’t develop chronic issues.
Holistic Care: We identify muscle imbalances or weaknesses and provide corrective advice to improve your off-bike physical well-being.
Performance Optimization: Comfort + Efficiency = Performance. When you are comfortable, you are faster.
Our Bike Fit Options
We offer two levels of service at our Holmfirth clinic to suit every type of cyclist.
1. Standard Bike Fit
Ideal for those new to cycling, especially road biking, or riders who want to move away from “tricky guesswork.”
Focus: Establishing a safe, comfortable, and efficient baseline position.
Best for: Beginners or riders with a new bike who want an expert pair of eyes to set them up correctly.
2. Advanced Bike Fit
A progression for experienced riders, athletes training for events, or those struggling with persistent pain.
Focus: High-performance optimization and injury resolution.
Specialties: Improving aerodynamics for Time Trials, resolving foot-cleat interfaces, and fixing chronic back, neck, or knee alignment issues.
Deliverables: This session involves iterative testing and modifications. You will receive a detailed PDF report of all final measurements and changes.
What Happens During a Session?
Fitting a human to a bike is a journey, not a one-time fix. Your 2-hour session follows a proven clinical process:
In-Depth Consultation: We discuss your goals, weekly mileage, and current injury history.
Initial Observation: We watch you ride your bike on a turbo trainer to see your natural habits.
Precision Adjustments: We work through a comprehensive checklist, including:
Saddle: Height, tilt, and fore/aft position.
Feet: Precision cleat positioning and foot interface.
Cockpit: Stem length (reach), handlebar drop/tilt, and lever positioning.
The “Right Fit” Guarantee: If your bike is unfortunately the wrong size, we will not charge you. While most bikes can be adjusted to compensate for being one size too large or small, we prioritize your health over a “forced” fit.
Note: As you get fitter or recover from injury, your posture changes. We recommend a review session at 8-12 weeks post-fitting to fine-tune your position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why have a Bike Fit?
A proper Bike Fit delivers a range of powerful performance and health benefits. As well as making your ride a great deal more comfortable, ensuring the correct bike set-up prevents jarring of your joints and muscles which can lead to injury. It also ensures the bike is aligned to your body measurements, shape and flexibility, boosting your pedalling efficiency and allowing you to push power to where it’s needed most. Furthermore, as your body no longer needs to expend energy adjusting and compensating for an improper fit, you can ride for longer without feeling fatigued.
Will a Bike Fit make me go faster?
Following a Bike Fit many of our clients report positive changes, from bettering their top speed, to enjoying a smoother, more streamlined ride.
