Kristian Thackray has been a Chartered Physiotherapist for over a decade, qualifying in 2011. He completed his undergraduate degree in Sports & Exercise Science at Bath University before returning to the North to train at the University of Huddersfield. He later earned a Master’s in Sports & Exercise Medicine from Leeds Beckett University in 2020 and became a certified injection therapist in 2023.
Kristian began his career at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and nearby satellite sites, quickly specialising in Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy. It was here that he and Mike Broadbent worked closely together, both aiming to advance their careers in this area.
He transitioned from the NHS to professional sports, working with Halifax Town (football) and the Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos (rugby league). This experience allowed him to treat high-level athletes and manage acute injuries effectively.
After his time in professional sports, Kristian returned to a hospital setting in the private healthcare sector, focusing on post-surgical rehabilitation for joint replacements, ligament reconstructions, and arthroscopic surgeries at Spire.
In 2018, he took on a specialised role as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner at Connect Health in Wakefield. This position involves assessing and diagnosing complex MSK conditions, developing treatment plans, and referring patients for scans and further investigations as needed. The role demands strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Since 2019, Kristian has balanced his work at Connect Health with his role at Physiotherapy Room Holmfirth. His diverse experience has equipped him to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
Outside of work, Kristian enjoys sports, particularly cricket, gym workouts, and golf. He holds the Titleist Performance Institute accreditation, which enables him to analyse golfers’ biomechanics and develop tailored treatment plans to improve mobility and reduce injury risk.
Kristian also has extensive experience in acupuncture and is able to provide joint injections at the clinic, typically for inflamed or arthritic joints resulting from trauma or flare-ups.
Kristian has recently taken up a Specialist Advanced Practitioner role in Calderdale Royal Infirmary specialising in conditions of the lower limb .
